See Ya Later Vegas!
It’s Friday and our time in Vegas is temporarily over. I once again quested for coffee and one Impossible breakfast sandwich. We decided to eat some of our leftover cake for breakfast too. Still delicious! We had a late checkout for 1pm, but we had a photo review appointment at noon, so after eating we started packing. We had time to run our things to the car in a few shifts. A little before noon, we headed to the Celebrations office to see our photos!
Donata was ready for us and had our photos ready to go on the big screen. Mary did a great job capturing our day! We’ve already shared some of the photos and plan to share more! We discussed our photo package options and once we settled up, we were outta there! Before departing the hotel, we wanted to grab lunch, so we popped into the food courts to see some quicker options and chose an Indian restaurant that served up a tasty Chana Masala, rice, and Naan bread. Ross tried to convince me to share a Stromboli with him, but it was huge and there was no way. I didn’t want to be overstuffed again! We passed on the Stromboli and headed for the car.
The drive to Arizona was smooth and uneventful. It was a 3 1/2 hour drive. We thought we’d get to see the Hoover Dam as we drove over the Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge, but alas, there are giant concrete barriers blocking the view. We saw a glimpse of Lake Mead, but no Dam. Damn. Into Arizona we went, making one pit stop along the way, a gas station along Route 66. There happened to be a big Route 66 logo painted on a wall next to the gas station... and we saw what we assumed to be a group of three “influencers” or wannabe Instagram influencers. They were doing all sorts of ridiculous poses in front of this wall with an American flag, but just casually tossing it on the ground, doing more dumb poses, etc. Dumb and disrespectful. But I digress...
We finished our drive (thank you Ross for doing all the driving) and made it to our little Air BnB called Roger’s cabin. It is 30 seconds off of Route 66 and is a little one room log cabin with a mini bathroom. It’s quaint and the opposite of our room in Vegas. I think our entire cabin is smaller than the bathroom at the Venetian. It’s quiet and just right. After settling in to our cabin we ventured out to the town of Williams, the Gateway to the Grand Canyon, for dinner at Grand Canyon Brewing and Distillery. We shamefully ordered some Wisconsin cheese curds as an appetizer, Ross tried a flight of beers made on site, and we had a nice veggie pizza. I think the breading on the curds wasn’t quite right, but overall they were pretty good. Just not quite top notch like back home. Before heading back to our cabin, we had to stop at Safeway to grab a few supplies for our Grand Canyon hike. We loaded up on water, trail mix, and two emergency Red Bulls just in case we needed an energy boost. I was hoping to get a better night’s rest than the past few. We have a long day ahead of us starting at 5am.
